1st Baby, 1st Dr. Appointment, What Am I Supposed To Ask?!
Anyone else really overwhelmed and nervous for their 1st doctor appointment? I know I was, I absolutely hate shots and getting my blood taken and was so worried something was going to be wrong. But I was pleasantly surprised that the long 1st appointment wasn’t too bad.
A few questions I didn’t even know I had until I got the appointment were:
- Who do I call if I have questions or concerns about the baby?
- How often will my Dr. appointments be throughout my pregnancy?
- What are the pros and cons of natural childbirth vs. having an epidural?
- What foods do I need to avoid?
And to my surprise all of these questions were taken care of within the first 30 minutes of my appointment. At the Mankato Clinic you get your vitals checked, and then go back with a nurse and answer more questions than you can ever imagine for both yourself and your significant other.
As nervous and worried as I was for the 1st appointment it wasn’t nearly as bad as I had made it out to be in my head. So my advice to all you new mamas out there ask the questions you have and research what is stressing you out.
A few other resources that I have found helpful are the classic pregnancy book ‘What To Expect When You’re Expecting’, ‘Parents‘ magazine and talking to my friends. Talking to friends has been the best outlet for me since many of them already have kids at home.
If you’re a first time mom, who or what has been your best resource?
